Lion's mane (Hericum erinaceus), otherwise known as bearded tooth fungus or bearded hedgehog, is an edible mushroom commonly found in East Asian countries that has been used for many years to support brain, nervous system and gastrointestinal health ^[1]. Its beneficial properties are due to, among other things, the presence of polysaccharides which include beta-glucans. Beta-glucans have antioxidant effects protecting the body from oxidative stress and act as a fibre that regulates cholesterol absorption, aids proper digestion and is involved in the synthesis of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are beneficial to our intestines ^[2]. Bearded hedgehog can support the expression of BDNF protein in the brain, which promotes a good mood that facilitates weight and fat reduction. In a pilot study involving a group of overweight and obese volunteers who followed a calorie deficit diet and supplemented with Bearded hedgehog extract, improved mood, better hunger and satiety control, a decrease in the frequency of overeating episodes and improved sleep quality were observed ^[3]. Based on observations of participants with normal cognitive function who were given lion's mane extract, good performance in a short-term memory test was noted, which may suggest a potential beneficial effect of lion's mane on brain and nervous system function ^[4].

What makes it unique is the double standardisation of the raw material. The high quality of the supplement is determined by the content of the most significant compounds, i.e. beta-glucans, which account for as much as half of the polysaccharides in the product! 1 capsule contains 600 mg of extract obtained from 18 g of Hericium erinaceus fruiting bodies (DER 30:1).A daily serving of 1 capsule is a source of 240 mg of polysaccharides, including as much as 120 mg of beta-glucans. The product is free of sugar, gluten, lactose, soya, GMOs and is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
